Packaging

Creating Volume with Planar Materials:

For this Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) course assignment, I was given three glass Christmas ornaments and told to design shelf packaging using nothing other than card stock paper. To make the things more interesting, I could not use any forms of adhesive, and it must survive a ten-foot drop onto the hard floor (to act as an extreme shelving mishap scenario).

I chose to develop a cartridge system, which would allow the packaging to fold flat when not in use and allow the ornaments to remain suspended within the closed package. The final form survived a drop from a four-story building (the highest height I had access to for testing).
